ITV’s New Reality Show

ITV’s New Reality Show

ITV is giving us a long-awaited Simon Cowell vs Donald Trump grudge match with its new reality show

Any guesses why it’s called Bigheads?

ITV is going to pit our favourite (and least favourite) celebrities against each other in gruelling physical challenges for its new reality competition.

Comedian Jason Manford has unveiled the first look at his show Bigheads, which will transform members of the public into the likes of Simon Cowell, Donald Trump, Theresa May and Victoria Beckham to test their physical prowess.

Each week, these competitors will face off in celebrity-inspired physical challenges where they’ll try to knock each other out of the competition. The winners of each episode will ultimately return for a grand finale.

“I’m really looking forward to you all seeing Bigheads. It’s the daftest show I’ve ever been involved in and I’ve done a lot of daft shows,” Jason Manford joked.

“It’s the show where people in massive celebrity heads get hit in the face and fall over. If you don’t like that you need to have a long hard look at yourself.”

If the host of this this week’s Nightly Show is calling something else “daft”, you know it’s daft!

Among the other celebrities who’ll be represented are modern-day folks Prince Charles, will.i.am, Adele, Benedict Cumberbatch and Mo Farah alongside historical figures including Queen Victoria and William Shakespeare.

If you’ve ever fantasised about Adele trying to knock off Queen Victoria in an obstacle course, Bigheads is definitely the show for you!

Joining Jason Manford each week to provide expert analysis of the games will be Olympic track-and-field star Kriss Akabusi and Celebrity Masterchef’s Jenny Powell.

Bigheads will premiere on Sunday, April 23 at 7pm on ITV.

Every week eight members of the public are transformed into the world’s most famous celebrities by donning giant heads. The Bigheads compete against each other in a series of massive celebrity-inspired challenges in this new physical game show.
The celebrity Bigheads featured in the series range from politicians and celebrities through to historical figures and royalty. For example Simon Cowell, Mo Farah, Adele, Benedict Cumberbatch and Victoria Beckham will appear alongside the likes of William Shakespeare, Boris Johnson, Prince Charles, Queen Victoria and Donald Trump.
This six part series, hosted by comedian Jason Manford, will be filmed in front of a live arena audience, culminating in a grand finale, sixth episode.
Jason Manford said: “I’m really looking forward to you all seeing Big Heads. It’s the daftest show I’ve ever been involved in and I’ve done a lot of daft shows! It’s the show where people in massive celebrity heads get hit in the face and fall over. If you don’t like that you need to have a long hard look at yourself.”
Joining Jason each week to commentate on proceedings will be TV personality Jenny Powell and Olympic athlete Kriss Akabusi MBE.
Jenny Powell said: “I’m so excited to be involved in a show like Bigheads for ITV. It’s so different from anything I’ve done before and I’m delighted to be working with the hilarious Jason Manford and sporting legend Kriss Akabusi. Viewers can expect a lot of fun and high energy – it’s a real treat for all the family.”
Kriss Akabusi said: “I’m very excited to be involved with ITV’s new series Bigheads! It has everything one could want and more for evening family entertainment; drama, excitement, spectacular costumes and set, all this fused with real athletic endeavour.”
Bigheads has been commissioned by Head of Comedy Entertainment Peter Davey and Gemma John-Lewis, Assistant Commissioner, Comedy and Entertainment. Peter Davey said: “It happens rarely but this was the first time ‘I commissioned in the room’. The idea made me laugh at that original pitch and makes me laugh every time we meet to further develop it. It’s unhinged – in a warm, fun, family viewing type way…. if that’s possible”.
Mat Steiner, Adam Wood and Paul Wright from Primal Media will executive produce the show.

BROADCAST INDIE SURVEY 2017 SAYS PRIMAL “ONE TO WATCH”

PRIMAL MEDIA

The prospect of Adele rugby-tackling Donald Trump is one of the most surreal visions conjured up in Broadcast’s news pages of late. Taking inspiration from both It’s A Knockout and Spitting Image, Primal Media’s first commission, Bigheads for ITV, is a physical gameshow with a twist, with members of the public competing while wearing enormous celebrity heads.

Former Gogglebox Entertainment founders Mat Steiner and Adam Wood have form with off-the-wall ideas, notably ITV2’s entertainment format Release The Hounds, and it’s this left-field thinking that Lionsgate has bought into with its first UK non-scripted indie

The Sun – Release The Hounds: Famous and Freaked, What’s It About?

The Sun – Release The Hounds: Famous and Freaked, What’s It About?

RELEASE The Hounds is as freaky as it sounds – and promises to be even better as the new series starts up. So what does the show entail? Who’s taking part in this series and where do we know them from?

What is Release the Hounds: Famous and Freaked?

This season, bosses have promised that they have ‘upped the ante’ for the testing games to push the celebs to their limits.  Filmed in a remote forest from dusk through to the dead of night, each episode sees three celebrity faces compete in a series of weird and wacky challenges. The aim of the game is to win money as much possible for their chosen charity. During the game, they will have to face horror themed mental and physical challenges aimed to truly push them to their limits. The ultimate challenge for them is to out-run a pack of dogs trained to guard the cash.  If they manage to escape the hounds, the money belongs to them.

How will the teams fare?

Who from The Only Way Is Essex will be on Release the Hounds?

In the first episode, a trio of Towie cast members face off against demented bin men, a warehouse full of evil toys and an army of clowns.

Bobby Norris

Bobby has been a part of Towie since the fourth series, and is often seen with his close gal pals Gemma Collins and Chloe Sims. He is often considered the voice of reason for his co-stars, but is always there with a cheeky comment to keep things light. However, he’s never appeared to be someone up for a fight, and that’s just what he might have to do as he tackles the scary tasks – and wrestling the money away from the dogs.

Can he hack it?

Chloe Sims

Mum-of-one Chloe may be primped and primed – but that doesn’t mean she’s not afraid of getting her hands dirty. After being caught up in a Tenerife brawl, where the Towie crew was attacked by a gang of thugs, surely a pack of dogs won’t slow her down?

Guess time will tell how she takes on the challenge…

Pete Wicks

Pete has been renamed ‘The Pirate’ by his Towie cast mates thanks to his tattoos and long, straggly hair. A self-certified tough nut, Pete’s brains and brawn will both be put to the test on the game show.

Is Pete as big and tough as he makes himself out to be?

Who hosts the Release the Hounds?

Reggie Yates is the master of ceremonies and hosts the events from a ‘control centre’ telling cast mates what to do. However, even he isn’t safe from the game – as he found out in a prank last season. He was made to believe that one of the trials had gone wrong – and in the process Joey Essex had been killed when a TV was smashed on his head. As Charlotte Crosby and Big Brother’s Pete Bennett looked on, the team checked on Joey in a pool of blood and Reggie looked like he was going to be sick.

It was revealed shortly after it was a prank at the expense of Reggie and Joey was completely fine.

When is Release the Hounds: Famous and Freaked next on?

Release the Hounds: Famous and Freaked launches on Thursday, February 9 on ITV2.

The series will run for seven episodes, and will also feature the cast of Love Island, Geordie Shore as well as YouTubers Marcus Butler, Joe Sugg and Alfie Deyes.

You can catch up on any episodes you missed on ITV Player shortly after the show is aired.
